Talking to employers while your Anerkennung is pending

How to discuss pending foreign qualification recognition with German employers without overstating your licence status.

Colleagues in conversation during a workplace meeting

Employers often ask for a simple yes-or-no on recognition. Your situation is usually more precise: application submitted, documents requested, partial recognition with adaptation ahead, or voluntary recognition still under review.

Honesty protects you. Claiming a protected title or licensed status you do not yet hold can end a hiring process and create later compliance issues. Better language names the authority, the file status, and the tasks you may legally perform today.

For regulated professions, ask HR whether an assistant or supervised role exists while you complete compensatory measures. Some hospitals and schools already use such arrangements; others need the limits explained in writing.

Keep a one-page status note: profession, training country, competent authority, application date, and outstanding items. Sysintegration often drafts this note during a career bridging session so you are not reinventing the explanation for every interview.

Pending recognition is not a reason to freeze your job search. It is a reason to match applications to roles that fit your current legal status and your expected clearance date.
